Dubai to introduce a charge of 25 fils on single-use plastic bags from July 1.
Single-use plastic bags will be charged 25 fils at checkout counters in all stores in Dubai from July 1. Pharmacies, restaurants and e-commerce deliveries are included in the new rule.
The limit single-use bags policy will be evaluated over several stages until single-use carrier bags are completely banned within 2 years.
Government entities have already implemented multiple programmes to enhance environmental protection and resource conservation. These include an integrated waste management strategy for the Emirate and reducing harmful fishing practices such as banning nets. The enforcement of fees for waste disposal beginning January 2022 will help reduce waste dumping in landfills.
