Flag Day in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a national occasion celebrated annually on November 3.

His Highness  Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE initiated the event to honour the country’s past, present and future. November 3 was chosen to celebrate this day as it falls on the anniversary of the accession of HH Sheikh Khalifa as President of the UAE in 2004.

Rules for displaying the UAE flag

The UAE upholds strict rules regarding the proper display and care of its national flag:

  • The flag should be a rectangular shape with a height-to-width ratio of 1:2, with the colours appearing in a specific order.
  • Additionally, the flag should be checked every 45 days to ensure it remains in good condition and replaced every six months, particularly for flags displayed on government buildings or embassies.
  • The flag may not be used for decorative purposes on disposable items, nor may it be modified with additional symbols.
